Generation of waste – Checking of certain groups of people
table of content
General information
The competent authority checks original producers of hazardous waste (with the exception of problematic materials) and waste collectors and waste treatment operators. The competent authority also checks the accuracy of the master data entered in the register on edm.gv.at (→ BMK)German text when doing so.
Enterprises affected
- Original waste producers of hazardous waste
- Waste collectors
- Waste treatment operators
Caution
In general, these rules also apply for companies from other countries, e.g. EU Member States that have their registered office or (waste producing) branches in Austria or who work in Austria as waste collectors or waste treatment operators.
Deadlines
- Collectors and processors of hazardous waste and processing facilities for hazardous waste are checked at least once every five years.
- The remaining people are regularly checked at appropriate intervals.
There are special regulations for IPPC facilities and Seveso companies. You will find information on environmental inspections on edm.gv.at.
Competent authority
- The governorGerman text
- In the case of holders of equivalent permits:
Federal Ministery for Climate Action, Environment, Mobility, Innovation and Technology (→ BMK)
Please note
The governor can entrust the district administrative authority with checking the processing facilities.
For inspecting waste collectors and waste handlers with an equivalent permit from an EU Member State or an EEA state is also partly the BMK responsible. But this does not apply to the responsibility for inspecting reports such as the waste balance reports. In this case the respective provincial governor is the competent authority.
Required documents
As a rule, the records on waste must be presented.
