Sick leave
German text altered – new translation is not available yet!
Employees are obligated to notify their employer immediately (without undue delay) of their inability to work in the event of sickness.
If, after starting a job, the employee is prevented from performing their duties due to illness or an accident, provided this is not the result of their intentional actions or gross negligence, they are entitled to six weeks’ continued remuneration. This entitlement increases depending on the length of the employee’s service up to a maximum of twelve weeks. For a further four weeks, the employee is entitled to half remuneration.
If the continued payment of wages by the employer is exhausted, sick pay may be due from the social insurance.
Employers can access sickness-related absence data for their employees and trainees online (→ ELDA)German text.
